5.14.08 10 QUESTIONS WITH ERIC MCHENRY
Osiris asks Eric McHenry about the Ultimate Boarder Triathlon…
1. What were your expectations on the event? It was my first event of this kind and I was a little bit skeptical, but I was just stoked to be a part of it. I have passion for improving the technical side in all board sports.
2. What was it like being in a snowboard contest? It was inspiring to see the other guys pushing the bar and at the same time seeing what I needed to learn to go bigger next year.
3. How did you feel going into the surf contest? Since I have competed so much in the water and feel comfortable surfing C Street, I had a game plan to catch the best waves. It’s also cool to think you have so many top-level pros in snowboarding and skateboarding sharing the waves in the line-up.

4. When they announced you as the winner in surfing, what was going through your mind? Stoked and excited to be on top of the podium, also super stoked for my sponsors, family and friends.
5. What was it like for you, and what did they have you do after the win? Super excited for the win, I knew there would be media coverage after the event so I just tried to widen my smile for the cameras, magazine editorial, internet and radio station interviews.
6. What did you do to prepare for the skate contest? I didn’t practice. I mingled with the mob and checked out the skating, got a little lunch, then got nervous.
7. How did you feel while skateboarding in your jam session? I looked at the ramp and wished I took a practice run so I knew it was a nervous first drop in and then I realized it was super smooth. Definitely knew I was in the lower pack, but the ramp was super fun and the jam format was pretty mellow.
8. What are your thoughts on the whole event? The whole event was well put together, great staff, planned out, and they really made us feel like professional athletes. Props to all the staff. I was a late entry and they got me in there. The contest was on schedule, never ran late and with no glitches.
9. What are your plans for next year’s event? Be a better all around boarder and come with some new tricks. Next year will be more competitive, so I am just going to keep surfing, snowboarding and skateboarding as much as I can.
10. Did winning the surf event, inspire you to take snowboarding and skateboarding a bit more serious? For sure, I’ll be riding and improving.
