10.14.08 NOR CAL SON!
We embarked on another Duffelland adventure sprinkled with a bit of camping. Our crew consisted of Russell, Young Tom, Jimmy Carlin, special guest Walker Ryan and myself. James Brockman was on a Zero trip up near Corey’s, so he was going to meet up with us once we got there. Before heading up to Corey’s, we camped a couple of days in the Santa Cruz Mountains and met up with a couple of our enjoi homies, Zack Wallin and Louie Barletta to skate San Jose. Caswell wasn’t in town unfortunately, but from what I heard, he was at GVR shredding. We skated around San Jose for the next couple of days and had a blast checking out all the spots while hangin with the homies. Thanks Zack and Louie!
After San Jose we headed to Corey’s. Corey just bought a new house and was kind enough to let us stay. You could say he’s living the “good life” these days. We showed up and were hyped! After camping for the past few days, beds sounded amazing. The next day we headed to Davis, Ca. to hang with the kids at an event that Ground Zero skateshop was putting on. It was a pretty rad setting and there was a contest for the kids. After that, we headed over to UC Davis to meet up with Jeff Landi and check out the rail Stefan switch flipped crookst. The spot was pretty damn sick! Jimmy ended up getting a rad line there and Tom came up as well. Just like most of the UC schools, UC Davis was filled with rad stuff to skate. Let me say that if you ever go there, peep the Gap Corey 180’d. Pretty bonkers! We ended the day with some awesome burgers and the night with Bronx Tales. Good Night!
The next day we dropped Walker off at the Bart station due to a foot injury and started the sesh off at the Creek Park. The park is loads of fun for anyone. Tom was literally blazing around all over the place and filmed a sick ollie while the rest of us had some laughs about fixed gears. The next stop was Oakland to meet up with Dave Chami. We checked out the parking garage where Andy Roy wallied off of and continued rolling. We stopped at this banked flat gap thing where Jimmy and Brockman sessioned for a bit until this agro lady spoiled the fun. Oakland has a lot to offer for skating and but there are some areas that keep you on your toes for sure. After that we headed to the Alameda area to check out the up blue metal ledge. While we were there Tom skated off and started taking another approach to this spot near by. Little dude was battling for a bit, but ended up getting a really good trick. We drove around a little more to check some stuff then dropped Dave off at his Casa, and then headed back to the Creek to do some BBQing.
Tuesday was our last full day to skate, so we started it off with a sub-par breakfast that I cooked. We headed northwest to check out the new Benicia Park. We ended up bumping into Brad Staba at the new park and skating it long enough to witness Tom do a stellar line. The next stop was this tranny wall that Silas had a cover on, pretty knar. At the same spot was this bump to rail that Tony Manfre had a cover on. We threw the football a couple of times and watched Jimmy land his line before we moved on. We stopped over at this skatepark near by for a quick sesh before heading to Sacto to light some stuff up. When we got to Sac we shredded this bump to dirt gap for a bit then headed to the slanted down hill manual pad to test our balance. Jimmy ended up coming up with tricks at both spots. I think this was our first time using the generator and lights in about a year or so. We headed back to Corey’s and all I remember was listening to the Police and talking about the Lost Boys the movie. Once we got back to Corey’s, James ended up putting Lost Boys on. Funny Stuff I would say. We woke up the next morning and packed our stuff to take off. Walker ended up showing up just in time for us to say our good byes to the Duffman and make our way down south. After saying later to Corey, we headed over to Ripon Park for a quick roll around and lunch before dreading the rest of the drive. By the time we got back to San Diego it was about 10pm and the van was laterd, but never the less the trip was successful and fun. Thanks Zack, Louie, Landi, Chami and Corey. Good Times.
