News From Osiris

Before moving to California when I heard the words “US Open” I thought of Tiger Woods and golf and the Williams sisters and tennis. It turns out that the US Open is also the largest surf contest held over 4 days in Huntington Beach. Along with the surf event there is also the Soul Bowl contest for skate and BMX as well as multiple girls contest in the Soul Bowl, vert ramp, street course and snowboard rail jam. You heard me right: snowboard rail jam. Where else will you be able to find snow in sunny California on a hot sunny afternoon right on the beach? The US Open.

The Open has something for everyone. We have girls competing in all the events. Our moto guys are doing jump shows everyday, and Osiris owner, Tony Mag, is in the Soul Bowl contest as well and has won it 6 out of the last 7 times or something crazy like that. He might be over 40, but the guy still rips.

Early today we had 2 signings for Jacks Surfboards with surfers Kala Alexander, Matt Rockhold, Cheyne Magnusson, and Mikala Jones as well as skate team riders Garrett Hill and John Lupfer. The first signing was at the shop on Main St., which gave the guys a chance to get ready for the madness to come. After the first signing we headed to the Jacks tent on the beach, and things got a little crazy. Surf TM Eric Sorenson came prepared with items like saran wrap, maple syrup, oatmeal, dog and cat food, diapers and lemon merengue pies, while skate Tm Cuong Lieng grabbed the bullhorn and hyped up the crowd. It’s funny what kids will do for some free stuff. We gave away stickers, dvd’s, tees, belts and shoes to those who wanted to participate. You wait in line for some autographs, meet your favorite surfer or skater, get some free stuff, and have the time of your life. The Oakley signing that went on next to us became non-existent as we took over the show. Sorry guys. Check out the photos below and check back Monday for updates from the rest of the Open.
