After a long night in Hood River, we awoke early to head to Salem for a signing at Fuel, which was about 2 hours away. Before we could hit the road we headed over to the IPS shop and signed a couple of boards for the shops wall. As we shared stories from the happenings of the previous night we made our way to Fuel. The rain came down, and being that we are all from California, we don’t drive so well in the rain. This time around, there was no throwing up, so that was a plus. We stopped by a Flying J to grab some snacks, and Jimmy got a sweet “I love chocolate” tee. Of course we were late to Fuel, but the kids were patient, and all of them got their posters and body parts signed. The kids love Corey. Thanks to John from Fuel for setting up the event. After the Fuel signing, we grabbed some food and headed to Dokument Skate Shop that was also in Salem for a surprise visit. We dropped off a few copies of our video, and the kids that were hanging out got a nice little surprise for the day. Needless to say the kids were psyched to meet Corey, Jimmy, Stu and Shuriken. After Dokument visit, we headed back to Portland to check into our hotel, get some dinner, and then we went over to the Department of Skateboarding for a little after hours session, Thanks to all the guys at the Department for letting us skate. The park was sick, and everyone had a good time. After the session we headed back to the hotel, hung out at a local bar, and then called it a night before any head butts came into play. Thanks to everyone that came out to meet the guys and see the video, and a special thanks to Wally and Kathryn from IPS and John from Fuel. Oregon, we love you.

Off to the northwest we go. We left early Saturday morning so we could have some time before the premiere in Hood River that was being held by IPS that night at the Gorge Room. Stu Graham, Jimmy Carlin, Shuriken Shannon, Cuong Lieng, and myself left from San Diego and would meet up with Corey Duffel in Portland along with our northwest rep, Nodak. The first order of business was lunch. After grabbing a burger we headed to Skate Legion to skate the little mini in the shop. Even though the flight was short, it was nice to stretch our legs. Stu and Nodak ripped the mini and then it was time to hop in the van and make the hour and a half trip to Hood River. Jimmy decided to catch a little sleep and about 20 miles before reaching Hood River, he woke up and started puking. We pulled over, Cuong manned up and cleaned up the mess as Jimmy stumbled outside to catch some fresh air. After the delay we were back on the road. Let me tell you this. Wally, Kathryn and the IPS shop are amazing. All of us were thoroughly impressed. Our rooms were stocked with drinks and candy, the bathtubs were full of the other drinks, Subway sandwiches were plenty, and once we made it to the Gorge Room, there was an open bar for all of us. We couldn’t have asked for anything more. Wally and Kathryn, I think I can speak for all of us when I say you two are the best. There was a little meet and greet before the video. Kids got posters and whatever else they wanted signed and wee able to hang out with the riders for a bit before the lights dimmed for a one song performance by a 3 piece band called the “Skate Freaks.” I’m not sure how old these kids were, but if they were over 10, I’d be surprised. After their White Stripes cover, it was time to “Feed The Need.” The video played, product was thrown out, and then the Soda Pop Kids and 2 other bands got the party started. Shuriken Shannon is Black Label’s newest pro. Late last week Shuriken meet with John Lucero only to find a rack of his first pro-model board in John’s office. Needless to say, Shuriken was shocked. Shuriken’s talent on his board is undeniable. With the opening part of “Feed The Need” under his belt, his impressive bag of tricks with effortless style and massive pop, Shuriken was ready to join the pro ranks. “Feed The Need” will be available in the January 08 issue of Thrasher and Shuriken’s pro boards from Black Label. Step into the darkness!
