8.3.07 X-GAMES XIII, COREY DUFFEL STREET PRELIMS
That time of year again. What better way to celebrate mid-summer than to invite some of the most talented skateboarders to ever step on a skateboard and let them compete. X-Games XIII is here. With this group of guys it’s not so much of a competition as it is a group of friends showing up and throwing down tricks they’ve been working on for some time. The who’s who of skateboarding were all in attendance for the street prelims. Koston, Reynolds, P-Rod, Rodgers, Sheckler, Gonzales, Busenitz, and Osiris’ own Corey Duffel made their way to the Home Depot center to try their hand at qualifying for the street finals. The set up was very street oriented and with the jam session format the spectators witnessed some amazing skateboarding. The 21 skaters were broken up into 3 groups and each group had 7 minutes to throw down on each of the 3 sections of the course. The top 9 would move to the finals. Corey came out of the gates banging. He was riffling through his bag of tricks effortlessly. As the day came to an end Corey made the kickflip over chain and bank to flat bottom, ollie pole into bank, back tail, pop shuv 5-0 and bluntslide hubba, 3flip double set and numerous other tricks to secure a spot just outside of the top 9 who would advance to the finals. Corey’s 11th place finish was quite impressive being that this was his first, but probably not his last X-Games appearance. After the contest Corey made his way out of the center where he was mobbed by the crowd. The kids love Corey. Although he was sweaty, beat up, tired and hungry, no kid left without an autograph and photo. Check out the photos and video below.
