Taken in early 2008 at the rincon school in San Diego. I always had dreams about this spot. I never thought I would actually go there. I definitely fantasized about doing a 180 over the flat rail up top. When I was shooting my interview for RideBMX mag with Ryan Fudger... I mentioned this spot and he had told me that is too much of a bust and no bmxer's have shot anything there since 1999 when dave young attempted to over ice the rail. I said "fuck it let's see what happens." We were there for twenty minutes, got three tricks and peaced out. The photo is almost a slap in the face every time I doubt myself on my own fantasy tricks and spots. Put in the heart and effort and anything can happen.
While filming for the bone deth dvd "surfin for the ugly broads" at the last couple months of filming we decided to add in some weirdo wacky monster introductions to the video. The make up in this photo done by shajn raines took a couple of hours. Whilst the make up was being done and drying I painted two babes green head to toe. I remember seeing the neighbors looking at us in awe. I'd imagine its probably a pretty weird scene seeing a pale native looking living corpse paint some nude babes into lizard chicks.
Stew Johnson's 10 year anticipated dvd that I worked on for nearly three years.. has to be the hardest punishment my body has taken. I'm still feeling some of the aftermath from the crashes ensued in this dvd. On the plus side, a lot of things went down unscathed such as this roof 360 in austin, tx. I remember wanting to do it again so i could pop higher, yet ryan corrigan and josh stricker told me I did it fine. Thank you two dudes for talking me down from doing it a second run or i'd probably have another never ending injury on my list.
One of the worst battles i have ever had... trying to ice through a double kinked rail in towson, MD. the first crash i believe was the one that left me with a cracked sternum. it was the last week of filming for the bone deth dvd and the last week of fall before the cold winter tit kicked in. So had to keep going. I crashed about 4 times onto my chest after already cracking my sternum. my body looked like a victim from a sawed movie.
I lived in this apartment complex for a few months. Since the first time i went up on top of the roof i wanted to do this manual to hop. I put it on the back burner for a long while... all until it was the day we were moving out. I realized i would no longer have access to the roof. Now or never. This was an erie one because if my front tire drops before my pop im going down three stories, and the skinny ledge drops on the right hand side. I wasnt that nervous though. I feel pretty confident with manuals. As well one floor down we saw a japanese kid masterbating in the window. I had to do it!
