    12.17.09 MARCUS TOOKER’S EURO TRIP

Marcus Tooker recently spent a couple of weeks hanging out in Europe. He sent over these photos and a write up about what went down.

I’ve got this uncle that works for Delta, and he’s pretty much the man. He’s got these buddy passes that he can give out and you fly where ever you want for super cheap.  I had a few weeks of nothing going on so I decided to take him up on one of his passes and go see a bit of Italy and Spain.

I started in Venice, Italy where I quickly learned it is illegal to ride a bike on the streets at all.  Cars and motorcycles were illegal too, just foot traffic was allowed.  Definitely a little different, so Venice was definitely 100% tourist stop for me.  From there I headed down to Rome.  There was plenty of riding to do there.  I didn’t get many photos from there because I was traveling alone at that point.  The traffic in Rome was insane though.  I swear there’s no rules of the road and people just drive like maniacs.  It made it real fun to cruise around.Marcus2  After a little time in Rome, I headed down to Sicily and met up with a few friends.  There wasn’t too much to ride, so I was back in tourist mode for a few days.  The country was awesome, we drove in and out of little medieval towns and bought nice wine, hahaha.  After a few days we flew out of the Palermo Airport in Sicily over to Barcelona!!  I doubt there’s a kid with a BMX bike that hasn’t heard how awesome Barcelona is to ride.  It was nothing short of amazing, and the spots seemed endless.  We were on bikes all day just cruising around.  We had an idea where some of the famous spots were, but on the way to them we would see 5 others that we recognized.  It is seriously an amazing city.  We sessioned this one spot for about an hour with a cop just 20 yards away.  He didn’t care at all and we didn’t get hassled once the whole time we were in the city.

The second to last night we were their I left my bike locked to a bike rack in front of our hostel for a few hours.  When I came back it was gone, someone must have clipped the lock. I couldn’t believe it, I’d never had a bike stolen before, and it’s about the shittiest feeling you can feel.  So my last day in Barcelona was spent without a bike and I was back in tourist mode.  I guess it wasn’t the worst thing in the world but was super bummed. Marcus3Barcelona lived up to all the hype and more, I’m already trying to figure out how to get back there. Europe is pretty sweet, lots to see and even more to ride. Definitely an awesome trip I won’t be forgetting about any time soon.
