Pierre was disappointed in his performance Thursday night at the big air competition, but that only fueled the fire for the vert contest that was to come. This time around the format was a bit different. With 10 skaters in the contest only 5 would advance to the finals. The field of 10 was broken up into two groups of 5, and the top 2 of each group would advance to the finals as well as the best of the 2 third place finishers. Instead of 60 second runs, each skater would take 1 30 -second run as well as a 7-minute jam format in which you went until you fell or reached the 30-second time limit. The format was a bit strange but the 30-second run format forced the competitors to throw away the set up tricks and go back to back with the best tricks they had. Pierre Luc Gagnon and Shaun White took the tops spots in their respective heats and were joined by Bucky Lasek, Andy Macdonald and Sandro Dias to make up the final five. Pierre completed every 30-second run and took the top spot quickly and never looked back while throwing nollie backside heel 360 indy grabs at will. After it was over, Pierre found himself with a Gold medal around his neck while Bucky Lasek got Silver an Shaun White got the Bronze. Check out the video and photos below.
